We are about a month away from Wrestlemania 28 and I am feeling really underwhelmed by the return of the People's Champ. This past Monday Night, WWE flew The Rock up to Portland, Oregon to respond to criticism over his comings and goings over the last several years. The Rock came out looking very heelish, taking pot shots at John Cena. I have a problem with the tone of the promo, it was more personal and lacked any substances. It wasn't funny, edgy or did nothing to get me to shell out $60 to see Wrestlemania.
As usual, the WWE is missing out on a golden opportunity to have the Rock put over a current superstar to build business. The Rock comes off as anything put the People's Champion and in fact, I would say he should be playing heel. I've was scripting the promo, it would have been something like this... No catch phrases, no cute tweeter or social media mentions, no gay jokes at Cena's expense, no lady parts jokes at Cena's expense, just a promo selling what he wants to do to John Cena at Showcase of the Immortals.
"Cena, I don't like you. I want to embarrass you. I am going to expose you for what you really are, a coward who hides behind your dwindling fan base. I am not doing this for the fans, I am not doing this for the guys in the back, I am doing this for Dwayne Johnson and my legacy. I have beaten some of the all time greats Stone Cold, Undertaker, Mick Foley, Triple H and now I am going to add you to the list. This is about you and me. My legacy speaks for itself and beating you will just add to my resume going forward."
I am just having a problem with this whole match, don't care about either guy, don't care who wins and I don't think they will put on an epic match. What I do think will be the match of the night will be Chris Jericho against CM Punk. Jericho - Heel who feels he has been wronged. Punk - Face who is against the evil establishment that has kept him down too long. For the next 4 weeks, they have to keep these guys away from each other. Punk cannot get his hands on Jericho and sell the anticipation of it finally happening.
Finally, The Eve turn. They could have done this sooo many ways and they missed a golden opportunity to make her the ultimate bad girl. She needed to turn on Zack Ryder and cost him the US title or something like that. But, I am willing to bet, Eve will turn face again a few weeks after WM28.
